I’m Freya, a violinist and lover of words (writer, reader, Strands-game-addict…), and I’m currently living life as a 30-something-year-old female in Washington, DC. Whether I know you in the real world or you’re someone who just happened to stumble across this page, thank you for your interest!
I’ve been writing about my experiences and ideas since 2015, when I created my first blog (throwing it back to blogspot days!). I started out writing and posting anonymously about all the things I care about, but eventually, the blog naturally became connected to my life as a musician, and I immersed myself in it. I turned it into a newsletter, published on my personal website and then moved to Substack, and now, for its 10th anniversary, I’ve decided to reinvent as Shaky Lens.
Shaky Lens is a collection of short essays about music, literature, and the arts, projects I am working on, and my thoughts on different aspects of culture and society. I will occasionally share the odd poem (if I feel brave enough to do so) and a roundup of recommendations for all the things I have found recently interesting: books, articles, places in my city, and other ideas. I’m also hoping to create special limited series and workshops, including a 'Practice With Me’ series, where I share my practice process and break down specific issues that I’m working through.
As a free subscriber, you will receive occasional public posts and access to everything I’ve written in the past. It’s the perfect place to start and see if you’d like to connect with me more.
